This is a new event for us and was recommended by Wisley staff. There is a great deal going on during the day such as:
Using highly sensitive microphones, Alex Metcalf brings the inner workings of the trees to the public ear. Listen to the surging of a tree’s life up from the roots towards the leaves; available all day.
Follow the STIHL Lumber Jack Tree Trail to learn more about trees and spot the STIHL Lumber Jack in his distinctive costume as he walks around the show. STIHL’s mobile showroom will be displaying a wide range of garden power tools. Also, experts will be providing onsite STIHL product demonstrations.
Traditional horse-logging practices will be demonstrated by Weald Woodscapes, as their impressive forestry horses are put through their paces in a display of horse-drawn timber extraction.
Wood carvers and artisans demonstrate many varied skills in the chalets at Wilson’s Wood. Visitors can also chat with representatives from woodland-related charities such as from the RSPB, Forestry Commission, Surrey Wildlife Trust and Woodland Trust.
The RSPB will be leading bird walks each day at 11.30am & 2pm.
Join one of two fungi walks each day at 11am & 3pm. Spend an hour getting to know some of your fungal friends and foes; most of the fungi found in your gardens are either harmless or actually beneficial.
There will be tree climbing demos across the event from the Wisley Arb Team.
There is a wide variety of places to eat in addition to the shop and plant centre. The new Welcome Building opens in Spring 2019.
